The Department of Industrial Engineering added a new one to its seminar series organized to strengthen students' academic knowledge and introduce innovative approaches in sectoral application areas. On Friday, April 24, 2026, at 10:30 AM, in the MFFB-128 Simulation and Optimization Laboratory, our department faculty member Selçuk Gören gave a comprehensive presentation titled "Optimization of Supplier Evaluation Systems in the Defense Industry."
The seminar discussed a hybrid methodology developed to increase efficiency in supplier selection, one of the critical processes of the defense industry. Selçuk Gören shared an original approach that combines information theory-based feature selection and mixed-integer programming methods through a case study. How this approach, explained through a real application, yields successful results in complex decision-making processes was examined in detail.
This seminar, which is guiding especially for students at the final project stage and preparing for internships, constituted a concrete example of how theoretical models can be integrated into industrial problems. The event, which drew high interest from participants, ended with a productive exchange contributing to the students' professional vision after the Q&A session
