On April 2, 2026, a group of 35 second-year students from our department’s Psychological Counseling And Guidance program visited the 48th Preschool Special Education Institution located in Bishkek under the guidance of Dr. Kadiyan Boobekova.
A total of 280 children receive education at the institution. The children, aged between 3 and 6, include those with Down syndrome, autism, physical disabilities, hearing and visual impairments, as well as intellectual and language development delays. Although the institution mainly operates as a daytime facility, it was noted that some children stay there as boarders and are taken home by their families on weekends.
During the visit, students had the opportunity to meet the director of the institution, Nargiza Baktıbekova, and received answers to their questions. Baktıbekova expressed her satisfaction with the visit and stated that they would be pleased to offer internship opportunities to students in the future.
Students toured the institution in groups and learned about handicrafts, toys, educational materials, and the physical environment of the school. They were also informed about the lives of children with special needs and the psychological support services provided to both children and their families. The importance of portfolios prepared for each child in tracking their development was emphasized.
Within the scope of the visit, comprehensive information was shared on topics such as admission requirements in special education, evaluation committees, working conditions, school-family cooperation, the educational process, student profiles, and guidance to higher-level educational institutions. Challenges encountered in the field of special education were also discussed.
It is considered that this visit made a significant contribution to the students within the scope of the course “Psychological Counseling And Guidance in Special Education.” The program concluded with a group photo session. Students stated that this experience was highly meaningful and beneficial for them.
