On April 22, 2026, within the Department of Educational Science, a seminar titled “Addiction and Preventive Approaches” was conducted by Prof. Dr. S. Barbaros Yalçın. Prior to the program, a short film on addiction was screened, followed by the presentation.
During the seminar, the neurobiological foundations of addiction were discussed, and the role of the brain’s reward system and dopamine mechanism in addiction was explained. Attention was also given to individual, familial, and social risk and protective factors. In particular, loneliness, lack of meaning, and weakened social connections were emphasized as key factors that increase the risk of addiction.
The seminar also addressed current preventive approaches, including school-based awareness programs, parent education, early intervention strategies, and the importance of psychological counseling services. In addition, evidence-based intervention methods such as Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Motivational Interviewing, and digital tools were discussed.
At the end of the program, the Head of the Department of Educational Science, Prof. Dr. Yücel Öksüz, delivered a brief speech on the impact of addiction on social life and family relationships. Subsequently, Prof. Dr. Yücel Öksüz presented a certificate of appreciation to Prof. Dr. S. Barbaros Yalçın.
