World Cancer Awareness Day Held at KTMU

On 4 February World Cancer Awareness Day, Kyrgyz-Turkish Manas University (KTMU) organized an event to raise awareness and public consciousness about cancer in society.

The event held at the KTMU Oba Çay Garden, was attended by KTMU Rector Prof. Dr. Alpaslan Ceylan, staff of the Martyr Eren Bülbül Healthcare Center, academicians, and students of the Faculty of Medicine.

KTMU Rector Prof. Dr. Alpaslan Ceylan drew attention to cancer as one of today’s most serious health problems. He emphasized that the lives lost during the pandemic period once again showed how vital health is. Prof. Dr. Ceylan stressed that early diagnosis can save lives.

Prof. Dr. Ceylan also emphasized that Manas University is aware of the importance of the efforts against cancer and stated that Faculty of Medicine students will carry this awareness first in Kyrgyzstan and Türkiye, and then throughout the entire Turkic world. He highlighted the guiding role of science in the application of treatment methods and expressed that KTMU, as a university has a responsibility to inform youth, staff, and society.

During the event, KTMU Martyr Eren Bülbül Healthcare Center therapist Saodat Moldobaeva shared detailed information about cancer. Moldobaeva referred to the main symptoms and causes of cancer, emphasizing that “early diagnosis saves lives.” She also stated that people should stay away from alcohol and cigarette use and instead make sports and exercise a part of daily life, adopt balanced and healthy nutrition, and spend more time in fresh air.

At the end of the event held in the KTMU Oba Çay Garden, purple balloons were released into the sky to invite participants to be more conscious and sensitive toward cancer awareness.
