On June 10, 2025, the esteemed Kyrgyz writer Chyngyz Aitmatov, regarded as the universal voice of Kyrgyz literature and a common cultural treasure of the Turkic World, was commemorated with prayers at the Ata-Beyit National Historical and Memorial Complex on the anniversary of his passing.

The commemoration ceremony was attended by the Rector of Kyrgyz-Turkish Manas University, Prof. Dr. Alpaslan Ceylan. On behalf of the university, a wreath was laid at the gravesite of Chyngyz Aitmatov, as well as in memory of the victims of the 1938 political repression. During the ceremony, prayers were recited alongside verses from the Holy Quran, evoking a deep reflection on the pain of the past and honoring the memory of those who suffered.

Speaking at the event, Rector Prof. Dr. Alpaslan Ceylan emphasized the symbolic importance of Ata-Beyit, stating: “Ata-Beyit is not just a cemetery; it is a sacred place of memory, suffering, and resistance. Being here today is a debt of loyalty to both Chyngyz Aitmatov and the silent heroes of this land.”

Highlighting Aitmatov’s profound influence, Prof. Dr. Ceylan remarked: “Chyngyz Aitmatov, the eminent writer of the Turkic World, was not only a literary figure but also a powerful intellectual who reminded nations of their identity. He reminded us never to lose our identity, and never to become mankurts. He was a guide who illuminated both our past and the path forward.”

Referring to one of Aitmatov’s most enduring quotes, “The most difficult thing for a human being is to remain human every day. This is not just a memorable saying; it is a guiding principle for our lives.” He concluded his speech by underlining the continued relevance of Aitmatov’s legacy: “The youth of the Turkic World will preserve the spirit of unity and solidarity by following in Aitmatov’s footsteps and carrying forward the torch he lit.”

The ceremony served as a poignant reminder that the bridges of the heart built by Chyngyz Aitmatov through his works continue to resonate deeply across the Turkic World.
