The film Black Red Yellow, featuring Nargiza Mamatkulova, an instructor at the Department of Radio, Television and Cinema of the Faculty of Communication of KTMU, won the “Best Feature Film” award at the 27th Shanghai International Film Festival.
First held in 1993, the Shanghai International Film Festival often referred to as the “Cannes of Asia” is one of the most prestigious events in global cinema. This year, over 3,900 films from 119 countries were submitted to the competition. Following a rigorous selection process, only 12 films advanced to the finals. Black Red Yellow, representing Kyrgyzstan, made cinematic history by receiving the festival’s highest honor.
KTMU academician Nargiza Mamatkulova, who portrays the character of Turdugul, a traditional carpet weaver, delivered an impressive performance that received high praise. The film was lauded for its artistic depth and cinematographic excellence, drawing acclaim from the jury chaired by Oscar and Golden Globe-winning Italian director Giuseppe Tornatore.
Mamatkulova’s achievement, both as an academic and as an artist, serves as a powerful source of inspiration for emerging filmmakers. Her success exemplifies the harmonious fusion of academic insight and creative expression. This prestigious international recognition of Black Red Yellow affirms that when creativity, dedication, and aesthetic sensitivity come together, works of universal significance can emerge.
As Kyrgyz-Turkish Manas University, we extend our heartfelt congratulations to Instructor Nargiza Mamatkulova on this remarkable and well-deserved accomplishment.
