A project aimed at promoting embryo transfer and artificial insemination practices in Arashan sheep is being launched under the leadership of Kyrgyz-Turkish Manas University, in cooperation with TİKA and international partners.
The project titled “Enhancing the Value of Kyrgyzstan Sheep by Overcoming Existing Challenges,” was prepared in collaboration with Kyrgyz-Turkish Manas University (KTMU), TİKA, the Ministry of Agriculture of the Kyrgyz Republic, Atatürk University, the Arashan Sheep Breeders Association, the Kyrgyz Research Institute of Livestock and Pasture, Samsun Ondokuz Mayıs University, and Van Yüzüncü Yıl University, and was submitted to TİKA.
The project introduction meeting, held at the KTMU Senate Meeting Hall was attended by KTMU Vice Rector Prof. Dr. İsmet Altıntaş, TİKA Bishkek Program Coordinator Mehmet Bodur, Director of the Kyrgyz Livestock and Pasture Research Institute Dr. Raahatbek Ibraev, Veterinarian Semetei Zhorobaev, President of the Kyrgyz Sheep Breeders Association Mirlanbek Satybekov, and representatives of the relevant institutions.
Arashan Sheep to Attain Their Deserved Value
The project introduction presentation, which highlighted the project’s significant contribution to the economy of the Kyrgyz Republic was delivered by the Project Coordinator Prof. Dr. Serkan Yıldırım, a faculty member of the KTMU Faculty of Veterinary Medicine. Prof. Dr. Yıldırım stated that the project aims to promote the widespread use of embryo transfer and artificial insemination techniques in order to ensure more efficient utilization of breeding rams, increase reproductive performance, and prevent infertility. He also emphasized that the project seeks to support high-quality meat production by increasing the breeding of pedigree-recorded animals with superior genetic traits and good physical condition.
Preventing the Spread of Zoonotic Diseases
The project also aims to prevent the spread of zoonotic diseases that can be transmitted from animals to humans and to safeguard animal health. In addition, it plans to provide more practical training opportunities for students of the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine, thereby enhancing their professional knowledge and hands-on experience.

Emphasizing that universities should serve not only as institutions that produce academic knowledge but also as scientific centers that directly contribute to regional development and social benefit, KTMU Rector Prof. Dr. Alpaslan Ceylan stated: “As Kyrgyz-Turkish Manas University, our mission is to reflect our scientific expertise into practice in line with the shared needs of the Turkic World, to strengthen university–public–industry cooperation, and to contribute to sustainable development.
